Sunday Thoughts

"To mortify sin in our lives, we must first load our conscience with the guilt of it." from the teachings of English theologian John Owens. (Thanks, Dr. Da!) And I add, only then can we truly appreciate grace.

That doesn't sit well with the touchy-feely self-actualization mantras we hear today, now does it??

Here's a song for you...sung beautifully in our church today (Thanks, Lance!)

  1. I thought it was the Holy Spirit who loads our conscience with guilt...(John 14)

  2. Ahhhh, yes. I think the point was that we should "quench not the spirit" but let Him do His work; let Him load us with the guilt so that we realize how much we need a Savior. My fault; poor terminology. Thanks for clarifying!

  3. No problem. My place of trying to not quench the Spirit is in the area of giving up my "stuff". I never dreamed I was a hoarder of "stuff" until I have come to the place where I have to give it up so the Lord can use me the way He wants...it is so hard to let go of my precious things that have so many memories...Jane
