Summer freebies for kids.Lots of good stuff!!

Both Barnes and Noble and Borders have summer reading programs for kids in which they earn free books. Borders is for kids 12 and under and runs May 4-August 26. Kids can earn one free book from a list of 10 titles just for reading 10 books. B&N runs May 25-Sept 7. It is for grades 1-6 and there is a huge list of free books to choose from; they have to read only 8 books.  Here's the Borders link:

My kids have always done these. Now that they are getting older, it's a little harder; many end when the kid turns 12. Great incentives though! Most libraries have incentive programs also, and our local "Cleaner World" dry cleaners has had incentives in the past also. You can overlap these offers, along with school required reading,  which is a great deal. My kids have won multiple gift cards from these programs, and they usually only participate the first few weeks of summer because we go to Maine. In fact, Abby just won a poetry contest at our local library. As my husband likes to say, "Sometimes, you just have to show up!"

There is a free bowling program for kids here: http://www.kidsbowlforfree.com/. Just click on your state and it will let you know the places participating in your area. In the triad, there are alleys in WS and Greensboro, but none in HP:(!!

I had already mentioned that many theatres offer free movies in the summer. Make sure to ask the theatres near you. If you are in the Triad area, here's some info (thanks Dawn!):
